Sundarbans, Cambodia and Southern Thailand Pictures

Late afternoon, boating around the Sunderbans looking for tigers and crocodiles.

Lots of macaques hang out on rotting abandoned wooden boats around the jetty. This guy looks like the one in charge.

City park in bangkok.

We went to see a Chinese kung fu movie in a fancy mall. There were a couple dozen huge displays advertising upcoming movies, each with their one flat screen tv showing the preview!

At a temple gate at Angkor

The earlier buildings were composed primarily of small bricks rather than sandstone.

Many of the temples also feature statues of lions, elephants and nagas - many headed serpents.
The temples are all full of carvings. Some have hundreds of meters of incredibly detailed bas reliefs. They usually depict historical battles or stories from Hinduism or Buddhism. The carvings at Bayon are unique in that they contain scenes of daily life, like this fellow purchasing a turtle.

Bayon Temple, Angkor, Cambodia. From a distance, this temple looks like a massive disorganized jumble of crumbling rock. When you get very close, you can see each tower is topped with four giant, serene Buddha faces.

Another popular theme for carvings are these dancing women, called apsaras.

Between biking around and climbing the steep ruins, we sure got out fair share of exercise. Luckily, I made up for it my eating copious nutella crepes in Thailand.

The smaller temples are cool too

After walking along the wall of Angkor Thom, a fortified city, we stumbled across the east city gate in late afternoon.

Close up of Buddha faces topping the East gate
Almost sunset at Angkor Wat!

The trees and vines  growing over the ruins were tres romantique.

After a day of biking/walking in the dust, feet = totally disgusting.

View from a bungalow we stayed in for a night on Ko Tao, of the eastern coast of Thailand.
I completed my mission to locate mini donuts in Asia!

Puppet show

David took a picture of the show in action

We stumbled upon a huge wholesale snacks warehouse. The owner was very amused by us.

Mango sticky rice.

Many food vendors have their stands attached to their motorbikes like sidecars. It took me a while in Siem Riep while we were biking to get used to being passed by a couple pots of corn on the cob.

We saw TONS of lizards and frogs in Khao Sok

and lots of giant trees and vines!

The jungle is very thick.

Ditto

We had this waterfall to ourselves for two hours - we climbed up behind the main falls and explored dozens of smaller ones.
The wildlife most frequently sited was leeches - yuck - I had four sucking on one ankle at one point!

David made an extremely cute friend
