Hi Everyone!
David wouldn't let me go with him to Zealandia because he was afraid I would just want to bungee jump into glaciers all the time. So I was forced to have a fun time back here in the good old Home Country. I spent a interesting couple of months in St Paul and Chicago. A nice thing about this time was I was able to hang out a lot with my family. Some of the ladies of the family had time for a photo opp with our xmas presents, as seen in the picture to the left.
We did lots of fun stuff in the Twin Cities, too. As per usual, a lot of it involved food. One especially delicious meal was a brunch at Maria's Cafe in Minneapolis. In addition to superb Colombian coffee, I ordered two kinds of pancakes - corn cakes and plantain cakes. Each was extremely yummy, and yes, they came with cheese. Of course, mom was busy outdoing herself with delicious dinners. Highlights were an awesome pizza party with three kinds of pies and a super good meal of Indian food. We also hit up Everest on Grand for Leah's farewell dinner. Here's a picture I found on the internets of my favorite dish from that restaurant - curried fried okra. Yum!
We put our minds as well as our mouths to work by visiting some sweet museums. I hadn't been to the Mill City Museum by the river in Minneapolis. The displays were great, there was an entertaining movie, a cool tour, and a brownie tasting! I learned that 100 years ago, Minneapolis supplied 20% of the world's flour, but now only produces 7% of flour in the US.
We also took lots of nice walks along the Mississippi, included to Pilot Knob, an area my mom is involved in preserving and interpreting. In case you haven't heard about it, here's the link.
I spent a whirlwind five days in Portland catching up with friends and getting together some stuff for my thesis. Which I am still working on by the way! So quit asking! (Just kidding. About the second statement.) Then, I drove south to beautiful Yosemite, where I'll be working for the next while. I'll write more about that within the next few days after I take some sweet pics.
xoxo

Plantains are communist bananas, and I do not associate with them. I expect you to apologize to the country.
